PACKARD, Margaret E. Doty Passed away on Friday morning, July 31, 2015 at the age of 94. Margaret was born in Elmira, NY, October 22, 1920, daughter of the late Mina Belle Evans and Clarence Oliver Doty. She was pre-deceased by her husband Allen D. Packard, Sr., brothers David Charles and Richard Evans Doty, and sister Eleanor J. Doty Putney. She is survived by her sons, Allen D. (Terry) Packard, Jr. of Ballston Spa, NY and Gary R. (Carol) Packard of Horseheads, NY; grandchildren, Melissa (Rob) Williamson, Scott (Lorraine) Packard, David Packard, John (Caroline) Packard and Mary Beth Phifer; six great-grandchildren; sister Marjorie A. Doty (Vinnie) Magaw; and several nieces and nephews. Margaret enjoyed many years of retirement from Mechanics Savings Bank by spending time with her family, camping, playing cards and volunteering. She was a very active lady, involved with the Cub Scouts, Parents Teachers Associations, Mothers March of Dimes, Ground Observers Corps, Sunday School Teacher, Chemung County Chamber of Commerce, Elcor, Arnot Ogden Medical Center, Horseheads Historical Society, Red Cross Blood Drives, election inspector, and at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, where she was a Lay Eucharistic Minister. Thanks to the Elcor Skilled Nursing Staff in Hickory Knoll for their care. A Memorial Service will be held to celebrate Margaret's life on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at 11AM at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 410 South Main St., Horseheads, NY with Rev. Robert Adkins officiating. She will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery with her husband at the convenience of the family. Barbara Faye Statham
Horseheads, NY - Age 83 of Horseheads, NY. She was born May 20, 1937 in Yellow Springs, OH, daughter of the late Robert and Dorothy (Merriman) Beal and passed away Monday, September 21, 2020 at Bampa's House in Corning, NY. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, William R. Statham; daughter Tasha Statham of Horseheads; sons Leonard (Tamara) Statham and Robert Statham both of Rochester, NY, Jon (Jo Alex) Statham of Nashville, TN; grandchildren Tegan, Ian and Shelby; great grandchildren Timothy, Madison and Emily. Barbara retired as an ICU RN with St. Joseph's Hospital after 32 years of service. She was a communicant of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church where she started the thrift store "Browse & Buy". In her earlier years, she was active with the Jaycees. Family and friends are invited to visit Barber Funeral Home, 413 So. Main St. Horseheads on Friday, September 25th from 6 to 9 pm. Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. She will be laid to rest in Bath National Cemetery. REYNOLDS, Donna J. Scott of Horseheads, NY passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home on Thursday morning, September 25, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. Donna was born October 30, 1931 to the late Howard and Beatrice Hallock Allen in Syracuse, NY. She retired as a switch board operator from NY Telephone (Verizon) in Elmira, NY. Donna was a proud member of the Red Hat Society "Fuddy Duddies" and requested that all members wear their red hats. She was also a member of the EFA Class of 1950 reunion committee and the Telephone Pioneers. Donna was predeceased by her husbands, Robert H. Scott and Lynn Reynolds. She was also predeceased by brother-in-law, Milton Scott, sister-in-law, Elizabeth Allen and son-in-law David Wales. She is survived by her children, Terry (Gary) Fox in Horseheads, NY, Jeffrey Scott of Elmira, NY, Sharon (Mike) Smallcomb of Horseheads, NY, Carol Zaumseil of Elmira, NY; fourteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; brother, Gary Allen of Newfield, NY; three nephews and her constant feline companions Domino and Tipper. JACK M. SLOCUM Age 90 of Horseheads, NY passed away on Thursday November 1, 2018. Jack was born January 2, 1928 in Warsaw, NY the son of the late Clifford R. and Bertie Keeney Slocum. He married his wife Phyllis J. Freeland Slocum on July 18, 1947 and they recently celebrated their 71st Wedding Anniversary on July 18, 2018 . Jack was pre-deceased by his daughter Susan K. Slocum in 1951. He was a communicant of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Horseheads, NY and was very involved with The Boy Scouts of America. Jack enjoyed being a HAM Radio Operator and his call letters were WB2FXK . He retired from the Gas Department of NYSEG in Horseheads, NY with 40 years of dedicated service. Jack loved his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them. Jack is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 71 years Phyllis J. William H. "Bill" Game age 65 of Horseheads, NY passed away on Tuesday December 19, 2023. Bill was born December 16,1958 in Elmira , NY the son of the late Dr. Harold Francisco Game Jr. and Alberta Louise Daly Game. He was a graduate of Horseheads High School Class of 1977. Bill married his wife , Elaine M. Root Game, on June 25, 1988 and they would have celebrated their 36th Wedding Anniversary on June 25, 2024. Bill was a retired UPS Driver with many years of dedicated service . He was an active member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Horseheads, NY where served as a vestryman and caretaker of the church. Bill was also a longtime board member of The Horseheads Youth Bureau and member of The Horseheads Elks Lodge # 2297. Bill loved his family and friends and treasured the time he spent with them. Brigid Galusha, 91, of Horseheads, NY, passed away on September 21, following a brief illness. Brigid Bisgood was born in NYC on March 21, 1931, daughter of Elizabeth Bisgood(NYC) and Anthony Bisgood (London). She grew up on Long Island, in rural Vermont, and in Westchester County; she finally moved to Elmira in 1943. She graduated from Abbot Academy, Andover, MA in 1948. Brigid attended Elmira College where she met her husband, Neal (deceased), an ROTC and agriculture student at Cornell. The couple wed in Furstenfelbruck, Germany; they were married for 65 years. After returning to the states they lived in Elmira, Connecticut, Toledo, and back to Horseheads. Then, in 1968, the couple and their four children moved into the house of their dreams, an old farm house with 100 acres. Hers was a strong voice of reason in the tumultuous 60s and 70s. She took on good causes, those in distress, and the needs of the community. She was active in The Junior League, the League of Women’s Voters, and her town’s planning board. She served as the president of the YWCA, volunteered at Planned Parenthood, and dedicated herself to her church serving on the vestry, and stewardship committees. She was a born performer. She played in several Elmira Little Theater productions. She was a member of the church choir and sang with Crystal Cords. When they moved to the “big house” Brigid’s interest and talents for gardening flourished. The family hosted weddings amid the multiple gardens. She began writing a garden column and was featured in the Corning Leader on Sundays. Brigid also filmed a gardening TV show once a month for Senior Notebook. She became known as “The Plant Lady”. She starting workin Neal and Brigid were firm believers in the power of couples’ vacations. They travelled twice a year to exotic locations. South America, Antarctica, Costa Rica, Russia, Jamaica, Rome, Greece and wherever else 4-Seasons Travel took them. Brigid is survived by her four children, Alison Squiers of Elmira, Timothy Galusha (Judi) from Phoenix, Jeffrey Galusha of Horseheads and Christopher Galusha (Beth) from Pittsford, NY. She has six grandchildren, Nathan, Erin, Max, McKenzie, Emma, Sydney, and her faithful cat, Thor. Family and friends are invited to visit Barber Funeral Home 413 S.
